Origins of the Sanctuary
The history of the Sanctuary of Madonna della Corona dates back to the 13th century, when a small chapel was built to offer shepherds and travelers crossing Mount Baldo a place for reflection and prayer. At the time, the site was accessible only by steep and challenging trails, highlighting its isolation and fostering spiritual contemplation.
According to legend, in 1522, a statue of the Pietà, brought from the island of Rhodes, miraculously appeared in the sanctuary. This extraordinary event drew widespread attention, establishing the site as a renowned destination for pilgrims.
The statue, depicting the Madonna cradling the body of Christ, became the symbol of the sanctuary and a profound object of devotion for the faithful.

The Natural Context of Mount Baldo
Mount Baldo, often referred to as the "Botanical Garden of Europe," is among the most picturesque mountain landscapes in the Italian Prealps. Renowned for its remarkable biodiversity, its strategic location between Lake Garda and the Adige Valley further enhances its stunning beauty.
